Step into a world where fairy tales come to life, knights embark on daring adventures and a little imagination can turn an ordinary day into something magical! The Santa Clarita Public Library invites families to the 19th Annual Family Literacy Festival on Saturday, December 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library Branch (24500 Main Street). This year’s theme, A Midwinter Night’s Dream, will transform the Library into an enchanting medieval kingdom filled with mystical fairies, royal adventures, hands-on activities and plenty of opportunities for the whole family to celebrate the magic of reading.
Young adventurers can begin their journey at the Knight Academy, where they’ll train alongside knights, practice their jousting skills with foam props and complete fun drills that put their bravery and coordination to the test. Aspiring archers can test their aim at the archery booth, while little princes and princesses can jump their way through a bouncy castle and create their own royal crowns. Keep an eye out for mystical fairies parading through the festival, bringing a touch of fantasy and wonder to the celebration! The festivities will also feature 16 local vendors offering face painting, spin-the-wheel games, giveaways and other activities. Older adventurers can join the fun with crafting opportunities for teens and adults, including a metal and leather smith corner showcasing medieval-inspired craftsmanship.
Beyond the royal festivities, families can visit the Santa Clarita Animal Care Center’s adoption area to meet adorable animals searching for loving homes. And because every great adventure begins with a story, families can take home free books tucked inside complimentary Library bags to keep the magic of reading alive long after the festival ends. Whether you’re training to become a knight, creating a royal crown or discovering a new favorite story, the Family Literacy Festival offers a magical morning of imagination, creativity and family fun!
